Daring Baker's January 2014 - BAUMKUCHEN - German Layered Cake-

This month Francijn from Koken in de Brouwerij challenged us to make a Baumkuchen or a "tree cake". This layered cake were invented in German. Traditionally it's made by coating a spit with layers of batter. In Japan it's the most popular pastries. Cover with chocolate it's really beautiful. I chose a freezing day (- 4 degre Farenheit outside), but sunny day to make my Baumkuchen, one Sunday. While my husband and my son left to go skiing, too cold for me. Pretzel Kisses

Whaouh! What a marvelous recipe my daughter made by herself today! She said : Mom, I need to go shopping to buy: squares Pretzels, Kisses and M&M's. What do you want to do? Pretzel Kisses, Mom! I have never eaten Pretzel Kisses before. It melts in the mouth, it's really delicious. It was really fun to make with my 12 year old. She was the chef today in our kitchen! French Meringues

Santa Claus brought me a marvellous cookbook of French recipes, The Bistro Cookbook by Richard Bertinet. Richard is from Brittany in North West France and is the author of a variety of cookbooks (Pastry, Cook in a Class of your own with Richard Bertinet...). Baked Chicken in Creamy Tomato Sauce

I just picked up this cookbook : Dinner a Love Story by Jenny Rosenstrach. I couldn't stop reading it. I love this cookbook! I enjoyed discovering her story and her recipes. She has a lot of good ideas for Dinner, even if you do not have enough time to cook! Her Baked Chicken in Creamy Tomato Sauce is so good. I couldn't believe it that I needed 3 tablespoons of mascarapone to make this wonderful recipe. I now understand what is the Creamy Tomato sauce.
