Dutch Sweet Bread/Ontbijtkoek - Daring Bakers' December, 2014 challenge

This morning, it smells so good in my kitchen! It smells ginger and honey, wow! Thanks to Andrea from 4Pure for challenging us to make a Ductch Sweet Bread, called ontbijtkoek (literally translated breakfast cake) . We had a choice between Peperkoek Cake -(pepper cake) this spiced cake is an integral part of the breakfast table in Holland-,  Kruidkoek or Sugarfree Peperkoek. I chose the first one. It is often spiced with cloves, cinnamon, ginger, succade (candied citrus peel) and nutmeg. I just used ginger... [Lire la suite]

Paris-Brest : Daring Bakers' November 2014 challenge

Luisa from Rise of the Sourdough Preacher was our November 2014 Daring Baker hostess!. Luisa challenged us to make 6 small Paris-Brest. What a beautiful challenge! This French pastry was created in 1910 to commemorate the Paris-Brest bicycle race that begun in 1891. Its circular shape is representative of a wheel. I've never made Paris-Brest.  My husband was so glad to hear that it was our challenge this month. He loves this pastry. Thanks Luisa to challenge us to make this pâtisserie.. These Paris-Brest are so... [Lire la suite]

I just came back from South Carolina where I spent a few days. It was a pleasure to eat in the restaurants with an oceanfront dining. I have a good address in Garden City : Conch Cafe... Enjoy just an appetizer or a seafood entree and the view of the Atlantic Ocean. Maybe you will have the chance to see fireworks when dining. I am so glad to come back at home and present you the Daring Bakers' new challenge. This month, Ruth from The Crafts of Mommyhood challenged us to make an exciting challenge. She... [Lire la suite]

Daring Bakers June, 2014 challenge - Sugar Buns -

This month Shelley from C Mom Cook challenged us to make Cinnamon Rolls, a North American treat.  I am not a fan of Cinnamon. So I decided to make Sugar Buns -Martha Stewart's recipe with no cinnamon-. These Sugar Buns are delicious, when they are warm. The Yeast Dough is easy to prepare. It's the perfect dough to make Sugar Buns, Sticky Buns, and Monkey Bread.  I filled the dough with white and brown sugar. You can refrigerate the dough overnight and make your Sugar Buns for Breakfast. Wow! Imagine how it smells... [Lire la suite]

Daring Baker's January 2014 - BAUMKUCHEN - German Layered Cake-

This month Francijn from Koken in de Brouwerij challenged us to make a Baumkuchen or a "tree cake". This layered cake were invented in German. Traditionally it's made by coating a spit with layers of batter. In Japan it's the most popular pastries. Cover with chocolate it's really beautiful. I chose a freezing day (- 4 degre Farenheit outside), but sunny day to make my Baumkuchen, one Sunday. While my husband and my son left to go skiing, too cold for me. I made the cake with many layers, so I needed more than 2 hours to bake.... [Lire la suite]

Daring Baker's December 2013 - Let's Make Whoopie!

This month, we were challenged to make Whoopie. Our December Daring Baker's host was Bourbonnatrix from Bourbonnatrix Bakes. I was so busy this month preparing Christmas, finding the lovely and perfect gift for my husband and my 2 teenagers, cooking a meal for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  I chose a rainy day to make Vanilla Whoopie Pies. These lovely pastries are a Pennsylvania Amish tradition. I have already made the traditional Whoopie Pies, chocolate cake with marshmallow filling. That's why I decided to make Vanilla... Au revoir Lisa / Daring Bakers' November 2013 Challenge - Sfogliatelle Frolle

When I was baking one day of this week our challenge, I heard about Lis, about her passing. I am so angry, I am so sad. I remember her emails so nice. I remember my first challenge in 2008. It was so fun in my kitchen, my husband and my kids helped me to make a Danish Braid. And we were so proud to make it. She will be missed by so many of us. Au revoir Lisa. Sandie from Crumbs of love is our hostess this month. She challenge us to make great italian desserts : Sfogliatelle Ricci, Sfogliatelle Frolle or American Lobster Tails. I... [Lire la suite]

Hello! I'm back again, sorry I haven't made the last challenge. I was so busy in August traveling in France, but now I'm back in my kitchen. This month, Inma from  la Galletika challenge us to make a Tres Leches Cake / Three Milk Cake. This cake is very popular in Central and South America. It's a sponge cake soaked in three kinds of milk : condensed milk, evaporated milk and heavy cream.  Thank you so much Inma for this delicious dessert, easy to make. I loved it. But next time I am thinking about soaking the sponge cake... [Lire la suite]
